  Awards

American Society of Civil Engineers

Coastal Engineering Consultants, Inc. (CEC) and the Collier County Board of County Commissioners jointly received the American Society of Civil Engineer's 1996-97 top honor for a South Florida project. The outstanding Civil Engineering Project of the year award was garnered for the restoration of Collier County's beaches.

The firm's goals included creating a natural beach conducive to recreation, improving environmental habitats for sea turtles, sea oats and other endangered species, as well as providing storm protection. Following the restoration's completion in 1996, sea turtle nesting improved to over 91% hatching success. The beach revitalization project remedied six miles of critically eroded shoreline including the Vanderbilt, Park Shore and Naples beaches.
